Discover all the Florentine museums open and free on Liberation Day
Saturday, April 25, on the occasion of Liberation Day, you can celebrate the holiday by immersing yourself in the beauty of Italy’s cultural heritage. In fact, many museums in Florence are participating in the Ministry of Culture’s initiative and offering free admission to all visitors.
In the Tuscan capital, you can visit priceless masterpieces housed at the Uffizi Galleries, Palazzo Pitti, and the Boboli Gardens, all during regular opening hours (8:15 AM – 6:30 PM). The Accademia Gallery will also be open as usual and accessible from 8:15 a.m. to 6:50 p.m., with last admission to the museum at 6:20 p.m.
Birth of Venus by Botticelli, at the Uffizi GalleryApril 25 will also be the perfect opportunity to discover or rediscover the treasures of the Bargello National Museum, with its extraordinary collection of Renaissance sculpture, the Museum of the Medici Chapels, the burial place of the Medici grand ducal dynasty, the Orsanmichele Complex, rich in history and sacred art, and the Palazzo Davanzati Museum, a fascinating testament to domestic life in Florentine stately homese.
At the San Marco Museum visitors will be able to explore the Sala del Beato Angelico, recently redesigned to feature 33 panel paintings by the artist—the world’s most significant collection of his works on panel. Two exhibitions will also be open to the public: a special section dedicated to Mark Rothko, in dialogue with the museum’s frescoes, and The Fantastic Bestiary, on display in the Michelozzo Library, featuring a selection of illuminated manuscripts from the 13th to the 16th centuries.
All museums participating in the initiative will offer free admission to all visitors, making art and historical memory the stars of the day.
