Must-see art events in Forte dei Marmi, Viareggio, Pietrasanta, and Carrara
The summer of 2026 reaffirms Versilia as one of Tuscany’s most vibrant cultural destinations, with a calendar of exhibitions spanning Forte dei Marmi, Viareggio, Pietrasanta, and Carrara, featuring great masters, contemporary art, and public installations.
July
At the GAMC in Viareggio, through July 27, visitors can see Il capolavoro di Prassède by Giancarlo Micheli, curated by the Bau Cultural Association. This project intertwines art, literature, and storytelling, creating a dialogue between words and images through a poetic and contemporary language.
August
On August 31, the exhibition Roberto Fontirossi. In Silence: Color Takes the Stage closes at the GAMC in Viareggio. This exhibition traces the painter’s artistic journey through intimate figures, suspended atmospheres, and memories of Lucca. It is a journey in which color becomes the central thread of the narrative.
In August, the spotlight also turns to Carrara with White Carrara 2026, which celebrates its tenth anniversary with the theme Design Lives in the City. Through August 30, the city of marble transforms into an open-air museum with installations, architecture, design, and contemporary art scattered throughout the historic center.
September
Among the most anticipated exhibitions of the summer is Gustavo Vélez. The Dimensions of Balance, on view in Pietrasanta through September 20. The monumental sculptures in marble, bronze, and steel are situated within the Sant’Agostino Complex, the squares of the historic center, and the pier at Marina di Pietrasanta, creating a continuous dialogue with the landscape and architecture.
On September 27, two major exhibitions in Forte dei Marmi come to a close. At Forte Leopoldo I, Painting in Naples after Caravaggio showcases the De Vito Foundation’s prestigious 17th-century collection, chronicling one of the most significant periods in European painting. At Villa Bertelli, meanwhile, Migneco: Reality and Vision brings together twenty-two works created between 1939 and 1988, offering an interpretation of Giuseppe Migneco’s intense expressionism, which explores labor, nature, and a profound focus on the human condition.
