A tribute to the place that helped turn Composable into an international success

There are places that become part of a company’s history. For Nomination, one of these is Forte dei Marmi. It was right here, in the late 1980s, that the famous Composable bracelet began its journey toward international success. And today, nearly forty years later, the Gensini family returns to that starting point with the opening of a new boutique in the heart of this Versilian resort town, right across from the Fortino.

The new opening represents much more than just another retail location for the Florentine brand. It marks a return to the roots of an entrepreneurial story born from the vision of Paolo Gensini, founder of Nomination, which over the years has grown into an international enterprise present in 40 countries, with over 2,200 retailers and more than 90 flagship stores worldwide.

To understand the significance of this launch, we must go back to the late 1980s, when Composable was still just an innovative idea. Paolo Gensini’s experience as a metalworker had introduced him to the potential of steel, while his work in an ice cream shop had taught him the importance of offering quality and emotion at an affordable price. From this insight came the Composable bracelet, made up of interchangeable links that can be personalized with symbols, letters, and images. A simple yet revolutionary piece of jewelry, capable of expressing the wearer’s personality. The first sign of success came right in Forte dei Marmi. In the late 1980s, Gensini offered some bracelets to a jewelry store in the town center; at the time, they consisted mainly of letters and nautical flags. The success was immediate, and the store requested a quick restock.

“That’s where my story began,” Gensini says today, recalling walks on the beach, rides on his Vespa, and evenings in Versilia. What seemed like an experiment thus became the first step toward international success.

The core principle behind Composable has remained the same as it was from the beginning: creating your own piece of jewelry by combining individual elements. Over time, however, the concept has evolved. Today, there are over 1,500 customization options, and the links can incorporate precious materials such as 18-karat gold and diamonds, alongside the stainless steel that defined the product’s origins.

It is precisely this combination of affordability, customization, and innovation in materials that has transformed Composable into a product recognized worldwide. A piece of jewelry that has maintained a strong fashion-forward element without compromising on the traditions of Italian and Tuscan goldsmithing. Located across from the Fortino, the boutique features a store identity inspired by marble and the atmosphere of Forte dei Marmi, creating a direct link between the brand and the region that first recognized its potential.

Nomination already has several flagship stores in Italy, but the one in Forte dei Marmi was conceived as a special space, specifically to celebrate the relationship between the Florentine company and the Versilia region.

“I love this place because, like my company, it has remained true to itself”, explains Gensini. A bond that, according to the entrepreneur himself, continues to this day: during his walks in Forte dei Marmi, if he spots someone wearing a Composable on their wrist, he often stops to ask what story lies behind that particular customization.
