piazza santo spirito (ph. Lorenzo Cotrozzi)1st Sunday of the month – Savonarola Antiquaria, Piazza Savonarola
Every first Sunday of the month, Piazza Savonarola transforms into one of the most elegant destinations for antique enthusiasts in Florence thanks to Savonarola Antiquaria. The event hosts over 60 specialized dealers and offers a curated selection ranging from antiques to modern collectibles, as well as crafts and collectibles. Among the stalls, you’ll find collectibles, vintage items, rare books, paintings, prints, porcelain, and antique furniture, along with numerous curiosities that attract both expert collectors and casual browsers. A more intimate market compared to others, ideal for those seeking quality and tranquility.
2nd Sunday of the month – Antiques Market, Piazza Santo Spirito
In the heart of the Oltrarno, Piazza Santo Spirito is one of the city’s liveliest and most authentic spots. Every second Sunday of the month, it hosts an antique market that draws collectors, tourists, and Florentines. The stalls feature a mix of modern antiques, vintage pieces, design objects, and unique vintage finds. The atmosphere is typical of the neighborhood: informal, creative, and always dynamic. It is the smallest of Florence’s major markets, but also the one with the highest concentration of vintage items and unique pieces, often more sought-after than those found in larger, more organized markets. Strolling among the stalls means immersing yourself in a more intimate, everyday Florence, where the market is not just a commercial event but a social ritual, perfectly integrated into the life of the neighborhood.
3rd weekend of the month – Indipendenza Antiquaria, Piazza Indipendenza
Among Florence’s most important antique markets, Indipendenza Antiquaria stands out—a promotional fair specializing in antiques that takes place every third weekend of the month (excluding July and August) and has become a historic event for the city. Organized by Confesercenti Firenze, the event boasts a tradition spanning nearly 18 years and was originally held within the gardens of the Fortezza da Basso, from which it took its name. In recent years, following a reorganization of urban spaces, the fair was moved to its current location in Piazza Indipendenza, thereby updating its identity as well. Today it features approximately 100 specialized dealers from various regions of Italy, a factor that has helped build loyalty among a broad and diverse audience over time, comprising both Florentine collectors and national and international visitors. The selection is particularly rich and diverse: antique furniture, decorative objects, numismatics, philately, rare books, prints, paintings, sculptures, modern antiques, porcelain, fine vintage accessories, and unique collector’s items. A true journey through different eras and styles, where every stall may hide an unexpected discovery.
4th Sunday of the month – Santo Spirito in Fiera
Also in the heart of the Oltrarno, Piazza Santo Spirito remains one of the most authentic and lively spots in Florence thanks to Santo Spirito in Fiera, a regular event that transforms the square into an open-air market every fourth Sunday of the month. From early morning until late afternoon, the urban space comes alive with stalls, scents, and colors that reflect the tradition of Tuscan markets, offering visitors an experience that goes far beyond simple shopping. The event is a veritable treasure trove of artisanal products and skills. Among the exhibitors are handcrafted creations, one-of-a-kind pieces, and objects that tell stories of mastery and creativity. Alongside these, the market offers a selection of gastronomic delights and local specialties: goat cheese, honey, and artisanal sweets, truffles and truffle-based specialties, as well as products like balsamic vinegar and other traditional Italian delicacies. There is also a section dedicated to wellness and personal care, featuring natural and innovative products, along with gift ideas and unique items. Rounding out the experience are small antiques and vintage finds, where you can discover objects with a story to tell, alongside jewelry and clothing for those seeking a personal and unconventional style.
Last Sunday of the Month – Sant’Ambrogio Antiques Market
In the heart of the Sant’Ambrogio neighborhood, one of the most authentic and lively in Florence, takes place one of the events most beloved by antique and vintage enthusiasts: the market on the last Sunday of the month, when the traditional Flea Market expands outdoors and the square fills with stalls, voices, and unexpected discoveries. Here, for over sixty years, secondhand dealers, antique dealers, and collectors have preserved a heritage of objects that have lived many lives: worn vinyl records, vintage frames, lamps, porcelain, books, and little treasures just waiting to be rediscovered. The Flea Market has a long and established history: founded in 1963, it has always been a go-to destination for those who love to browse through affordable antiques and objects with strong sentimental value. Today it is mainly located in Largo Annigoni, next to the Sant’Ambrogio Market, where 26 permanent shops represent one of the city’s most authentic spirits: that of secondhand dealers and antique dealers. During the week, the market maintains a more intimate pace, while every last Sunday of the month it transforms: the space opens up, the stalls multiply, and the entire neighborhood becomes a vast open-air laboratory of memory and curiosities. It is a market with a richer atmosphere than other city events. For many, it is one of the most authentic places to seek out unique pieces that carry the scent of the past.
