SanPietro: the new contemporary concept of leather in Ponte a Egola

Matteo and Giacomo Montanelli inaugurate the historic tannery's new headquarters with an exclusive event

Leather as a Contemporary Vision, by two young entrepreneurs, Matteo and Giacomo Montanelli, third generation in the tanning industry.

Not just an opening, but a statement of intent. On Friday, January 30, in the heart of the leather district of the Province of Pisa, SanPietro officially opens the doors of its new tannery with an exclusive, invitation-only event—created in collaboration with Allegra Giudici—that brings together industry, architecture, music and a contemporary vision of leather-making.

SanPietro’s is, in fact, a reopening that looks to the future while remaining deeply rooted in tradition. Leading the project are Matteo and Giacomo Montanelli, aged 32 and 37, third generation of a historic family of tanners from Ponte a Egola. Raised among tanning drums and hides, the two brothers inherit an important legacy and reinterpret it through a modern, fast and sustainable approach, designed to meet the needs of high-end brands.

“We carry with us a profound knowledge of raw materials and craftsmanship, acquired from a very young age in our family tannery,” they explain. “What sets us apart is a contemporary method that combines artisanal expertise, speed and a strong focus on the client.”

The new headquarters at Via dei Conciatori 37/39 embodies this vision. A state-of-the-art industrial space designed by a renowned Florentine architect, it transforms—before entering full production—into the stage for a major opening party. A fluid container conceived not only for manufacturing, but also for relationships, culture and creativity.

The evening of January 30 begins at 7:30 PM with a live musical performance by Chicca Cirrinson, followed by a DJ set by Luca Pedrini. An immersive atmosphere accompanies the exclusive preview screening of the video presenting the new collection, which will officially debut in February at Lineapelle. Catering by Florentine brand Guido Guidi completes an experience curated down to the smallest detail.

The Grand Opening of the SanPietro Leather House is therefore not just a celebration, but the first chapter of a new industrial story. A story that speaks the language of its territory while embracing an international outlook—where leather returns to the spotlight as a living, cultural and contemporary material.
