“Many people today talk about tailoring without really knowing much about this craft, which is the most beautiful in the world. It takes me 70 hours to finish a suit, and there’s no machine to make the lapel. The jacket, for example, has a single dart. The shoulder is sloping, the seam is set back, the sleeve has no wrinkles or folds, and the cuff is rounded to follow the line of the shoulder.” Words from Antonio Liverano, a tailor of great tradition. He alone cuts the fabric and takes the measurements, working fifteen to sixteen hours a day, bent over the tailoring table, still adhering to the dictates of the old Florentine school. His clients are the most prominent figures in politics and business.

In 1987, a meeting with a great Florentine master craftsman gave Simone Abbarchi the opportunity to learn the fundamental methods of the art of made-to-measure shirtmaking, from design to fabric selection to attention to detail. In 1997, the workshop opened. Golden rules: in-person measurements, with great attention to fit and comfort; selection of collars and cuffs; choice of fabrics from nearly 4,000 options. Within 24 hours, the shirt is cut and ready for a fitting; only mother-of-pearl buttons, with the customer choosing the thickness; and personalization of the garment through monograms or embroidery, strictly done by hand.

It was precisely an article about Stefano Bemer that led Vivian Saskia Wittmer—a lover of men’s footwear since she was very young—to move from Germany to Florence, knocking on the door of his workshop to perfect what she had already learned from one of Germany’s greatest master shoemakers. A rare woman in an almost entirely male-dominated world, she quickly made her mark, so much so that today her shoes are appreciated and sought after all over the world.

Needles, punches, hammers, pliers, and awls. A single glance is enough to see that this workshop exists thanks to expert hands that know every secret of leather. All the creations—belts, wallets, bucket bags, laptop cases—are cut by Paolo Fattori and sewn by his wife Luisa, using exclusively vegetable-tanned leathers, with their natural grain and the marks resulting from the long drying process.

Woo Class’s first wooden eyewear was created in 2004. Since then, Lisa Gabellini’s atelier has been crafting frames that perfectly blend style and comfort, designed to deliver absolute well-being. Made with at least 11 layers of natural wood, the glasses are lightweight and flexible, yet durable. The nose bridge shaping—the process of creating the curvature for the nose—is achieved using the traditional steam method and is followed by over 83 stages of manual craftsmanship, while the lines of the various models, both those in the collections and the bespoke ones, are curated by designer Jochen Andreas Zeh, who is able to make a material as inherently charming as wood even more unique.
