The Florence of Sofia Medina

Let's experience the city in the company of the Italian-American content creator

Sofia Medina

You are from Houston, but have lived in Italy for a long time. What made you come here?

I moved to Rome in 2016. A year earlier I met my current husband and so, after a longdistance relationship, I decided to come here. I fell in love not only with my partner but also with Italy: its culture, food, lifestyle and everything.

Why did you choose Florence?

After 4 years in Rome, we moved back to the USA to be closer to my family and also look for new job opportunities. Things changed during the pandemic. The company I work for opened a new branch in Florence and we thought it would be the right time to return to Italy!

The content you share with your community revolves around various topics, which one are you most passionate about?

When I first started, I mainly talked about the differences between life in the USA and in Italy, but I like to deal with many topics such as travel, languages, beauty, fashion, and recently also motherhood. The most important thing for to me is to remain authentic in everything I do.

You have talked about skincare. Can you tell us your secrets?

Follow a simple routine with only a few products. Also, use simple and light make-up. And finally, always do what makes you feel good without caring about what others might say.

How do you spend your free time in Florence?

I enjoy going for walks and discovering new places, but in particular, I love sitting in an outdoor cafe sipping coffee or an aperitif and observing people.

A place for breakfast, one for an aperitif and one for dinner?

For breakfast, Ditta Artigianale. The aperitif at the Formaggioteca Terroir and dinner at the Trattoria Garga.
