Florentine actress Anna Manuelli, her love for acting and her city
Stories, passions and projects of the Tuscan performer who always carries her city with her

Have you always wanted to be an actress?
Cinema has always fascinated me. Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed of being part of that magical world I saw in films.
You work across film, television, and theatre. Which medium feels most like home?
They’re all different expressions of the same art. Theatre is a fully immersive experience that exists entirely in the present. Film allows you to shoot a scene multiple times, to play with the details, and to create something that lasts over time.
Was there a meeting that changed your life?
Among many, I’d say working in theatre with Maurizio Lombardi when I was eighteen, and meeting Adrien Brody. I learned so much from him while filming the short film See You in the Future, the ad for Fiat.
The second season of Blocco 181 has just been released. Was it nice to return to your character, Isabella?
Yes. I’m very fond of Isa – she’s a blend of fragility and strength. Playing such layered characters is the most rewarding challenge, even on a personal level.
What was it like working on SAS: Rogue Heroes?
It was an amazing experience, and I’m grateful for it. I played a Sicilian partisan, a role I truly connected with. She represents the thousands of people have stand up for freedom and justice.
From Florence to Rome, and now London, where you live. What do you miss most about your hometown?
I get emotional every time I go back. I miss the atmosphere of the city centre, the stunning views when you walk through the hills – and of course, the lampredotto.
What’s next for you?
I’m working on a play I wrote myself, which I’m really excited about. I hope I’ll be able to bring it to Florence soon.
