Saturday, February 22nd the magic of the Carnival of Florence returns

At 15.30 the departure of the parade from Piazza Santa Maria Novella and from 16.30 to 19 the party in Piazza della Signoria

Saturday, February 22, after more than a century, Florence returns to live the magic of Carnival, with an event full of fun, fantasy and spectacularity, which will bring back the city in the atmosphere of cheerfulness and irreverence typical of this popular and light-hearted party. 


A tradition that originated in Florence at the time of 'Medici and continued until the end of the nineteenth century and that finally returns in all its wonder, with music, masks, jugglers, waders, fire eaters and many other shows that will enchant young and old.


The carnival parade will start at 3.30 p.m. in Piazza Santa Maria Novella and will take part, with choreographies and dedicated music, delegation of the carnivals of Viareggio, Venice, Gambettola (FC) with a tribute to Maestro Federico Fellini, San Giovanni in Persiceto (BO) as well as bands, dancers and artists including the tallest wader in Europe.


In the square: make-up stations, cotton candy, music and entertainment waiting to leave with a parade.

Parade route


The parade, led by Stenterello - carnival mask of Florence born in the late eighteenth century - together with Burlamacco and Ondina - official masks of the Carnival of Viareggio -, will arrive in Piazza della Signoria, where the magic of the Carnival will continue until 7.00 pm with music by Remo Giugni and animation by Alessandro Masti and Leonardo Canestrelli, Radio Toscana. At the arrival of the parade in Piazza della Signoria, a Grand Jury will decide the winners who will be entitled to Vip entrance to the Viareggio Carnival.
