The Grunge revolution on show at Palazzo Medici Riccardi

The grunge epic comes to life in a major photographic exhibition. From 7 March to 14 June 2020 in Florence

Over 80 photos, including some unpublished ones, to retrace the history of the grunge music scene and that of its undisputed hero, Kurt Cobain, symbol of the American counterculture of the 90s, between the end of the Cold War and the illusion of the New Economy.

From March 7 to June 14, 2020, in Florence, Palazzo Medici Riccardi hosts the photographic exhibition "Peterson - Lavine. Come as you are: Kurt Cobain and the Grunge Revolution".

Two sections: on the one hand the images of Charles Peterson, official photographer of Sub Pop Records, on the birth of Nirvana, the concerts and the grunge scene in Seattle. On the other the shots of Michael Lavine, famous advertising photographer, taken from posed reports and images for magazines. An unprecedented combination that immerses the audience in the fascination of those extraordinary days, where fans were an integral part of a musical revolution, and not only.

And again, images of Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Mudhoney... The exhibition opens to the entire Seattle music scene at the end of the millennium, capturing a fundamental and recent period in American history: the crisis of Reagan hedonism, the new suburbs (and its countercultures) and the incipient New Economy that will generate its giants in Seattle.

"Come as you are" is a sound and vision exhibition, in whose evocative images several generations will be able to recognize themselves, reliving illusions, hopes and the style that in the drips of the second millennium saw them identify with a soundtrack and its heroes.
