10 events not to be missed this week in Florence and Tuscany

What to do in and around Florence from 26 September to 2 October 2022

Art, concerts, shows and good food. Here are the events not to be missed this week in and around Florence.

Corri la Vita turns 20 and celebrates this milestone by returning to run through the streets of Florence on Sunday 2 October. Participants will be able to choose from new routes varying in degrees of difficulty - one of about 11 km for those who want to run and a second of 6 km for those who prefer to enjoy the cultural sights along the way. Both wind through unprecedented scenery and breathtaking views designed specifically to enjoy the unique beauty of Florence. In addition to this, as per tradition, there will be the opportunity to visit free of charge in the afternoon many cultural destinations scattered throughout the city and its surroundings, including museums and exhibitions, simply by wearing the CORRI LA VITA 2022 jersey or showing the donation receipt.

The Museo Novecento will host the large monographic exhibition Tony Cragg.Transfer, which allows visitors to appreciate the artist's marvellous sculptures and drawings; this will be counterbalanced by the exhibition Passione Novecento. From Paul Klee to Damien Hirst, at Palazzo Medici Riccardi, which exhibits prestigious works by several 20th-century masters, acquired from private Florentine and Tuscan collectors. Also on display at the MAD Murate Art District in Florence is the exhibition Il Respiro dei sogni (The Breath of Dreams): the work of Jacopo Baboni Schilingi, which evocatively and dreamily collects the dreams of the citizens who have joined the artist's call. At Forte di Belvedere it is the last day of opening for the exhibitions dedicated to women artists: on the one hand the personal Play It Again by the young and talented Rä di Martino and on the other the exhibition Fotografe! presented and promoted by the Fondazione Alinari per la Fotografia. On the occasion of the centenary of the death of Stefano Bardini, thanks to the support of Aquila Energie, it is possible to visit the exhibition Officina Bardini. Admission to the individual museums will be available subject to availability, except for the Cappella Brancacci, where reservations are compulsory.

  • VINTAGE MARKET DI PIMP MY VINTAGE AT THE STELLAR

On Sunday, 2 October 2022, from 12 noon to 8 p.m., past and future meet in a special event: a journey to discover unique garments and original creations with the Pimp My Vintage Market, which will fill the spaces of The Stellar, in the Florentine Oltrarno on Lungarno Soderini, with colour, a galaxy that lights up in the morning and shines until late in the evening.

The Stellar (ph. Dario Garofalo)

In Gaiole in Chianti the Holy Week begins, which on Saturday and Sunday brings some 9,000 cyclists to ride the white roads of Chianti and Val d'Orcia wearing woollen jerseys, riding vintage bicycles, i.e. built before 1987. The Eroica is a race, or rather five races, but it is not a competition. One pedals for passion, to feel the difficulty of the road, the sacrifice and the fatigue. Emotions often unique rewarded by a smile, a plate of ribollita, a slice of bread and oil, bread and sugar, bread and wine. And what wine, since we are in Chianti. HERE all the details on l'Eroica and HERE everything you can see in Gaiole in Chianti. HERE all the details on l'Eroica and HERE everything you can see in Gaiole in Chianti.
