Bottega di Sguardi, a reference point for Florentine eyewear
Discovering a true style workshop that combines attention to detail with the most contemporary trends in the sector
If the eyes are the mirror of the soul, then glasses are certainly its interpreter. Functionality meets aesthetics, an accessory that can help us but also and above all communicate our personality. Not just an ally for "more charisma and symptomatic mystery", but a powerful tool that can be an authentic element of style. Audrey Hepburn's Manhattan glasses, James Dean's Mansfield Square F770, are just a few examples of famous people who have made their image immortal through the right pair of glasses.
Not all glasses, however, have this soul! This is why Bottega di Sguardi's two Florentine concept stores make this philosophy a winning workhorse. Only carefully selected products are displayed here through careful daily research and participation in the most important trade fairs in the sector, Silmo in Paris and Vision Expo East in New York.
Thus, a collection of exclusive and independent international brands comes to life, exploring new concepts, techniques and emotions. Brands that focus on the quality of materials and craftsmanship in their production processes. In addition to cult brands such as Jacques Marie Mage and Lapima, Bottega di Sguardi gives ample space to Japanese brands, undisputed leaders in the manufacture of eyewear, proposing a 'selection' that few stores in the world boast. Among them, it is impossible not to mention Masunaga, Japan's oldest eyewear company, with its unique and impeccable finishes.
For Simone Ghedini, optician, designer, art director and founder of Bottega di Sguardi, the passion for glasses goes hand in hand with the desire to offer customers a unique shopping experience, which finds many points of contact with personal branding consultancy. Guests, as he likes to call them, are invited on a journey of self-discovery. The journey always starts with listening. It then sails between the compartments of a couvette showing a selection of specially chosen models and often ends when we find ourselves surprised, wearing glasses that we would never have imagined, that improve visual comfort and at the same time show the best expression of ourselves.
Playing with one's own image is the most intimate and appreciative invitation we could ever give ourselves. And it is precisely thanks to this playful invitation that Simone creates his two personal collections, Vibes365 and the eponymous Bottega di Sguardi, both developed in partnership with two ancient factories in Cadore. These two collections make the lenses their strong point, for their quality but also for their chromatic peculiarities, which allow Simone to create infinite combinations with shaded lenses, for ever-changing looks. The ultra-light Vibes365, are inspired by the most beautiful seaside resorts in the world, including exotic destinations and Mediterranean pearls. The Bottega di Sguardi instead, are contemporary reinterpretations of the "great classics" that have made eyewear history.
Among these, in Limited Edition, we find the iconic Dentro, from the Greek word for 'tree', whose broader meaning, 'roots that are all born and reach the same trunk', celebrates the new artistic direction given to the store in Via del Parione. A Concept Store, where the shopping experience is completed with olfactory paths, accessories and handmade clothes. A mixed-use place that becomes a hub for creatives, where high-level professionals from different worlds are called upon to confront each other and have fun creating together. This is where the format "If eyewear were..." was born. After award-winning Chefs, Floreal Designers and Bartenders, in the latest episode, "If glasses were a melody", we meet two excellences from the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, who masterfully translate the two chosen glasses into music, to tell their story in a truly unique and emotional way. It really is all incredible, but this is where it happens.
