The Uffizi and Lucca Changes 2020

The director of the Uffizi in Lucca to create a link between Renaissance art and comics

Yesterday at the opening digital conference of the 2020 edition of Lucca Comics, exceptional guest Eike Schmidt, director of the Uffizi Galleries, who hoped for the creation of a link between the great collection of Renaissance Art of the Galleries and the world of comics: "The narrative of comics and manga is not born from nothing, but is in a sense heir to the tradition of illuminated codes first and then the art of the Renaissance. In this perspective the idea of creating a dialogue between the two worlds".

The inauguration was an opportunity to present one of the most recent acquisitions of the Galleries, the youth self-portrait of the eighteenth-century painter Bernardino Nocchi, born in Lucca, who became an important ambassador between Lucca and Florence, between the Uffizi, one of the major museums in the world, and Lucca Comics & Games, which well represents a vital and widespread branch of contemporary art production.
