Autumn in Tuscany

Between festivals and special events, it will be hard not to love this season

OCTOBER
Every Sunday this month the Chestnut Festival in Marradi. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th weekend of October and the 1st of November, the Porcini Mushroom and Chianina Beef Festival at Castelfranco di Sotto. From the 4th to the 25 th for 4 Sundays, the Chestnut and Berry Festival in Palazzuolo sul Senio, featuring the IGP Chestnut of Mugello. In Sassetta a month of festivals: the 11th is the Soup Festival, the 18th the ‘Tordata’ and Chestnut Festival, the 25th the Polenta Festival and Tournaments. The last weekend of October (including Friday) and the first of November in Volterra: Volterragusto and the 18th Edition of the White Truffle Fair. From October 30 to November 2 in Anghiari the One Hundred Apennine Flavours Festival, a fair and market dedicated to the world of agrotourism and eno-gastronomy of the Valtiberina. From the 31st to the 1st of November, Isola di Capraia, the 14th Squid Festival (legendary!). From October 31st to November 2nd, Piancastagnaio, Crastatone, traditional chestnut festival with open wine cellars.

NOVEMBER
From the 8th to the 10th, Stazione Leopolda, Florence, Food & Wine in Progress: debates, conferences, cooking shows, masters, meetings with 150 top Tuscan wine makers, the very best of Italian and International food and wine in a single event promoted by the Italian Federation of Cooks (FIC) and the Regional Union of Tuscan Cooks (URCT), in partnership with Ais Toscana and Cocktail in the world. The 14th and 15th, Stazione Leopolda, Pisa, Dolcemente Pisa, a journey through the world of excellent Tuscan sweets. The 2nd and 3rd weekend of the month, The White Truffle of Crete Senesi Festival in San Giovanni d’Asso and the 2nd, 3rd and 4th weekend of November and the 1st of December the National White Truffle of San Miniato Fair, in San Miniato (not to miss!).

DECEMBER
The 1st weekend of the month Oil Festival in Seggiano. The 2nd weekend of the month Oil Festival in San Quirico D’Orcia. The 8th in Talla, Faltona, in the Casentino, the traditional Sweet Polenta (made with chestnut flour) and Baldino (chestnut flour cake) Festival.
