Flag-waving, parade, special events and fireworks: 24 June in Florence is a festival loved by young and old alike. The feast of the patron saint, San Giovanni, coincides with the final of the Calcio Storico, a lively medieval version of football in Piazza Santa Croce.
At 10 p.m. the spectacle of games and colours of fireworks begins, visible - as well as from Ponte Santa Trinita and the traditional Lungarni - from the city's most beautiful terraces.
