The shows not to be missed this fall
OCTOBER
The season at Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino begins on October 16 with the two-act Le Villi by Puccini, with a new staging, and Ehi Giò by Vittorio Montalti. On October 20 and 21, for the pre-inauguration of the season at Teatro della Pergola, Virgilio Sieni directs his company dancers in Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune by Debussy. The season opens on October 23 (until the 28th) with Filippo Timi in Un cuore di vetro in inverno. On the evening of October 25, the Church of San Miniato al Monte will host the world premiere of Passionis Fragmenta, composed for voice and instruments by Salvatore Sciarrino on behalf of the prestigious monastic community; the piece is a musical tribute to the basilica’s 1,000-year anniversary (see pages 144-149).
NOVEMBER
From November 1 - 4, Lorella Cuccarini and Giampiero Ingrassia come back together at Teatro Verdi for the comedy Non mi hai detto più ti amo. On November 7, Rossini’s Cinderella will be performed at Teatro del Maggio, in a new staging by Manu Lalli for the 150th anniversary of the death of the legendary Italian composer. On the 29th (repeat performances on December 1, 5, 7 and 9), La Traviata by Verdi takes the stage once again, conducted by Enrico Calesso, with dramaturgy and direction by Francesco Micheli. Elena Bakanova and Simone Del Savio star. From November 16 – 18, at Teatro Verdi, the musical Flashdance comes to the stage, directed by Chiara Noschese. From November 20 to 25, at Teatro della Pergola, Marco Sciaccaluga directs Garbiele Lavia in John Gariel Borkman by Ibsen.
DECEMBER
On December 6 and 7, at the Basilica of San Miniato, the Tiezzi Lombardi theatre company performs Le felicità turbate, with texts by Mario Luzi. Starting December 13, Teatro del Maggio Musicale brings West Side Story, by Leonard Bernstein, to the stage, directed by Federico Bellone and conducted by Francesco Lanzillotta. From December 27 to January 2, A testa in giù comes to the Pergola, with Emilio Solfrizzi, directed by Gioele Dix.
