Art, concerts, shows and good food. Here are the events not to be missed this week in and around Florence.

  • FABBRICA EUROPA: XXIXTH EDITION OF THE FLORENCE CONTEMPORARY ARTS FESTIVAL

From 2 to 25 September in theatres, parks and gardens of Florence the Fabbrica Europa festival returns: 22 days of performances, 12 spaces, 27 events, 8 productions, 11 international proposals, 120 artists, 24 countries, 3 international cooperation and co-creation projects. Projects, shows, concerts, performances, meetings and workshops to investigate the creative processes that, in dance, music, performing arts and in their intersection, create a dynamic community of artists from Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia. The spaces chosen to host the festival are: Parco delle Cascine and PARC Performing Arts Research Centre, Giardino dell'Istituto Agrario, Teatro Studio di Scandicci, Teatro Cantiere Florida, La Compagnia, Teatro Puccini, Lumen, Murate Art District, Chiostro Accademia Belle Arti, Parco Villa Demidoff, Giardino delle Rose.   • FLOREMUS 2022

The sixth edition of the international festival FloReMus. Rinascimento Musicale a Firenze (Musical Renaissance in Florence), organised by the association L'Homme Armé, takes place in Renaissance venues in the city from Tuesday 30 August to Sunday 11 September 2022: it is the first festival entirely dedicated to music from the late 14th to the 16th century set in the cradle of the Renaissance and can boast, unique in Tuscany, the important recognition of being included in the REMA network - Réseau Européen De Musique Ancienne. Once again this year the event is divided into Evening Concerts (at 9.15 pm), Concerts à boire (concluding at aperitif time), Conversations with free admission and a high level of popularisation (at 6 pm), and a free Workshop open to all on the theme of young people's music in the Renaissance (at 5.30 pm). The evening programme features some of Europe's most sought-after groups. The evening concerts are: Friday, 2 September Ensemble Cinquecento; Sunday, 4 September Ensemble Alta Bellezza (Switzerland), an instrumental ensemble specialising in the Medieval and Renaissance repertoire, in Triste plaisir; Tuesday, 6 September Cappella Pratensis (Netherlands) , a male voice ensemble specialising in the Renaissance repertoire, in Maria zart. Un monumento della musica sacra rinascimentale; Thursday 8 September La fonte musica, an ensemble founded and directed by Michele Pasotti, in Enigma Fortuna. Sacred and profane music by Antonio Zacara da Teramo; on Sunday 11 September, L'Homme Armé conducted by Fabio Lombardo, one of the historic ensembles in the field of early music in Italy and Europe, for the occasion with a 10-piece ensemble, in Salva nos ... Liturgia immaginaria di fine secolo tra Firenze e Milano; music by H. Isaac and G. Weerbeke.

  • METROPOLITAN SUNDAY

Sunday 4 September sees the return of Metropolitan Sunday, a day on which all residents of the Metropolitan City of Florence can enjoy the city's museums free of charge. Citizens will also be able to take part in the numerous visits and activities scheduled at the various sites thanks to the support of GIOTTO, the love brand of F.I.L.A. Fabbrica Italiana Lapis ed Affini, and Lucart. Young people and adults are offered visits to the Torre San Niccolò, from which one can admire a spectacular view of the entire city of Florence. Families with children are offered the Vita di corte (Life at Court) and Per fare una città ci vuole un fiore (To make a city takes a flower) activities at the Museo di Palazzo Vecchio and in Palazzo Medici Riccardi it will be possible to take part in a painting workshop inspired by the Oscar Ghiglia exhibition. The Twentieth Century Years. It will also be possible to take part in visits to the Palazzo Vecchio, the Complesso delle Murate, the Complesso di Santa Maria novella and the Cappella Brancacci in Santa Maria del Carmine, where it will be possible to access the scaffolding set up for diagnostic and restoration work. All guided tours and activities are free of charge and reservation is compulsory. When booking, it is possible to reserve only one appointment during the day for a maximum of 5 people.

  • L'ORA MIRACOLOSA, THE THEATRICAL JOURNEY TO DISCOVER BELVEDERE FORT

Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 September 2022 at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. the Compagnia della Seggiole presents the theatrical journey L'ora miracolosa to discover the secret places of Forte di Belvedere. The show by Riccardo Ventrella, with Fabio Baronti, Neri Batisti, Luca Cartocci, Andrea Nucci and Sabrina Tinalli, is realised in collaboration with Once extraordinary events in the framework of E...state al Forte 2022.

  • FIL_ARMONIA, THE FESTIVAL OF MUSIC AND SPIRITUALITY AT THE CERTOSA

Eight appointments to retune the world and learn to listen to it again: from 4 to 16 September 2022, the Certosa of Florence will host Fil_Armonia, a festival of music and spirituality, conceived and produced by La Filharmonie, a young orchestra founded in 2016 and the only under-35 music hub in Tuscany, with the artistic direction of Giulio Arnofi and the musical direction of Nima Keshavarzi. Six concerts and two conferences designed to stimulate reflection on the human being and his relationship with nature, stopping to listen, in the most frenetic and noisy era in history.

  • ITALIAN CHEF CHARITY NIGHT ON THE TERRACES OF FORTE BELVEDERE

The solidarity network of Florentine chefs does not stop. For the sixth year - after the appointments dedicated to the reconstruction of Amatrice, to the fight against feminicide, to support Careggi and the elderly - the traditional charity evening organised on the terrace of Forte Belvedere is back. The appointment is for Wednesday, 7 September from 8.30 p.m. and will involve some of the most renowned Florentine and Tuscan chefs, who have responded with great generosity to the appeal launched by the Italian Chef Charity Night committee to give a sign of continuity with the initiatives of recent years. The evening's programme includes a buffet dinner open to the public, with a minimum donation of €25 donated to the Italian committee of the UN World Food Programme, in favour of the populations affected by the war in Ukraine. Participants will be able to taste signature dishes from 16 important chefs from the Florentine and Tuscan scene, including the owners of several starred restaurants: Riccardo Monco (Enoteca Pinchiorri), Filippo Saporito (La Leggenda dei Frati), Paolo Lavezzini (Il Palagio, Four Seasons Hotel Firenze), Marco Cahssai (Atman at Villa Rospigliosi) and Vincenzo Martella (Linfa, San Gimignano) will be present, together with Vito Mollica (Chic Nonna), Giovanni Cerroni (Mimesi), Ariel Hagen (Saporium), Andrea Perini (Al 588), Lorenzo Romano (Insolita Trattoria), Edoardo Tilli (Podere Belvedere), Salvo Pellegriti (La Vetreria), Luigi Bonadonna (The Stellar), Gabriele Andreoni and Elisa Masoni (L'Oste di Calenzano), Giuseppe Papallo (Architettura del Cibo) and Matteo Donati (Castiglion della Pescaia).

  • COLLECTING IN FLORENCE - ARTIGIANARTE, MONTHLY MARKET EXHIBITION IN THE TUSCANY HALL CAR PARK

On Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 September 2022, from 10.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m., Collecting in Florence - Artigianarte, the monthly market on the banks of the Arno in the Tuscany Hall car park, will start again. For more than thirty years, an appointment designed for lovers of collecting and objects has been held in Florence. What can you find wandering around the numerous stalls? Everything and more, because everything is collectible: small furniture, interior design objects, vintage toys, dolls, fans, helmets, glass, crystal, iron, bronze, aluminium, silver, white, prints, paintings, ceramic animals, Barbie dolls, model cars, railways, perfume and liquor samples, and then the whole world of vintage with bags, glasses, scarves, American and Italian costume jewellery, clothes, shoes, big names and fashion magazines.

  • SIMONE CRISTICCHI IN PARADISE: FROM DARKNESS TO LIGHT

Starting from Dante's cantica, Simone Cristicchi - on 1 September at 9.30 pm at the Ultravox Arena - writes and performs Paradiso. Dalle tenebre alla luce (From Darkness to Light), a theatrical work for voice and symphony orchestra, the story of an inner journey from darkness to light, through the powerful voices of the mystics of all times, whose teachings, like an underground river, cross the centuries to reach us with the topicality of their message. The performance represents the grand finale of Cesvot's music and theatre review Riprendiamoci la scena curated by the cultural association Lo stanzone delle apparizioni with the artistic direction of Matteo Marsan and Daniela Morozzi.

  • VERSILIADANZA: ALEXIS 2.0 BY ARISTIDE RONTINI WITH CRISTIAN CUCCO AT THE TEATRO CANTIERE FLORIDA

On Saturday 3 September 2022, at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., Versiliadanza proposes the show Alexis 2.0 by Aristide Rontini with Cristian Cucco, produced by the Cultural Association Nexus, at the Teatro Cantiere Florida. With her first novel published in 1929, Alexis or the Treaty of the Vain Struggle, the French writer Marguerite Yourcenar brought to life a long letter in which the protagonist, a musician by profession, attempts to declare his homosexuality to his wife.

  • LIVE ROCK FESTIVAL 2022 IN ACQUAVIVA (SIENA)

On stage the new that is advancing in music, from all over Europe. Doc delicacies on the table. Around rolling hills and beautiful Tuscan villages. Welcome back to Live Rock Festival 2022, from Wednesday 7 to Sunday 11 September at the Ex Fierale di Acquaviva, a stone's throw from Montepulciano (Siena). A festival marvel that has been renewed for 26 years. This time too, admission is (almost) free: 1.5 euro per evening, just for the formalities. The opening night of Wednesday 7 will be in the sign of La Femme, a spectacular French collective devoted to an electropop that declines coldwave and yéyé. Thursday 8 September will see Fine Before You Came, the Peninsula's most unconventional band. Saturday 10 sees the arrival of East London's new avant punk star: Nuha Ruby Ra produces live music and cover aesthetics, mixing noise rock, RnB and dark reminiscences.
