What to do in and around Florence from 18 to 24 July

Art, concerts, shows and good food. Here are the events not to be missed this week in and around Florence.

  • JAZZ & WINE IN MONTALCINO 2022

In 1998 Castello Banfi, one of the leading wineries of Brunello di Montalcino and Italian wine, created Jazz & Wine in Montalcino. The 2022 edition of Jazz & Wine in Montalcino, created in 1998 by Castello Banfi, one of the leading wineries of Brunello di Montalcino and Italian wine, starts right at Castello Banfi on Tuesday 19 July with Jacques Morelenabum and his CelloSamba Trio with special guest Paula Morelenbaum. The festival, with six concerts bringing the best of the international jazz scene to the stage, closes on Sunday 24 July with Daniele Scannapieco Quintet, guest star Mario Biondi. After the debut at Castello Banfi, the concerts move, as is tradition, to the Fortezza. Performing on Wednesday 20 July will be the monumental Ron Carter and his 'foursight quartet. On 21 July, it is the turn of Francesco Bruno & his 4et and the Alexander Platz National Orchestra, in a national premiere conducted by maestros Franco Piana and Paolo Vivaldi. Then, on Friday 22, it is the turn of Richard Galliano - New York trio. Finally, John Patitucci performs with his historic trio on Saturday 23 July.

Jazz & Wine in Montalcino

Every fourth Sunday of the month, the Fair in Piazza Santo Spirito returns. The event brings stands with handicrafts, antiques, books, clothing and vintage goods, as well as typical products, to the Oltrarno square.

  • CINEMA IN THE CLOISTER AT THE MUSEO NOVECENTO

From Wednesday 20 July throughout the summer until 6 September at 9.30 p.m. arthouse cinema returns to the cloister of the Museo Novecento. The summer arena, which seats about 130, will feature arthouse films, the best films of the season and a special homage to Pasolini with Ascanio Celestini. Italian titles include "Nostalgia" by Mario Martone with Pierfrancecso Favino, "Esterno Notte" by Marco Bellocchio, "Ennio" by Giuseppe Tornatore, a documentary with Ennio Morricone; "Le voci sole" by Andrea Brusa and Marco Scotuzzi with Giovanni Storti.

  • RICCARDO COCCIANTE AND ACHILLE LAURO LIVE AT THE MUSART FESTIVAL

Riccardo Cocciante is also among the guests of the Musart Festival, an event that combines big names in entertainment with the city's centuries-old charm. Flanked by the Saverio Mercadante Symphony Orchestra, Cocciante will be in concert on Tuesday 19 July (9.15 pm) on the stage of Piazza della Santissima Annunziata, just a few steps from Florence Cathedral, in a setting rich in history and art. On Wednesday 20 July, instead, Achille Lauro arrives. HERE all the other appointments.

  • GRANDE ADAGIO POPOLARE/ULTIMA CENA, VIRGILIO SIENI'S PROJECT IN THE FLORENTINE CENACLES

On Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 July 2022, at 7.30 and 8.30 p.m., Cenacoli Fiorentini returns with Grande Adagio Popolare/Ultima cena, Virgilio Sieni's project that presents itself as a diptych conceived and shared with fragile bodies. In the Cenacolo di Andrea del Sarto, on Wednesday 19 July 2022 at 7.30 p.m. and 8.30 p.m., people with different physical and experiential histories expose their existence. With them, dancers and caregivers act according to a doing that is listening to the other, waiting and holding. At the Cenacolo di Sant'Apollonia, on Thursday 20 July 2022 at 7.30 p.m. and 8.30 p.m., the action stems from Virgilio Sieni's intimate encounter with Uliano and Mudra. Together for the first time, they accompany him on a journey into the decompositions of the body, the skilful use of support and the deactivation of limbs as an act of reinvention of the human figure.

The nights of the Florentine summer will light up with films under the stars! Many cinematic arenas will be lit up for the summer of 2022, one of the most beautiful of which is undoubtedly that of the Piazzale delle Gallerie degli Uffizi, which will host Apriti Cinema again this year.   • BOBO RONDELLI & SUREALISTAS IN CONCERT AT ULTRAVOX FLORENCE - CASCINE AMPHITHEATRE

Wednesday 20 July 2022, at 9.30 p.m., at the Ultravox Firenze - Anfiteatro delle Cascine is scheduled the concert of Bobo Rondelli & Surealistas, an overwhelming musical event that mixes Italian and Spanish, poetry and farce, Labronico humour and porteño, hopes, disamours, Latin rhythms and existential disorders.

  • L’ATELIER DELL'ARTISTA AT MUSEO NOVECENTO

The appointments of the L'atelier dell'artista cycle at the Museo Novecento, dedicated to the three current exhibitions "Giulio Paolini. When is the Present?", "Filippo de Pisis. The illusion of superficiality" and "Luca Vitone. D'apres (De Pisis-Paolini). Wednesday 20 July at 6.30 pm, appointment with Paintings as a rebus, a meeting dedicated to Filippo de Pisis, curated by Federica Berti and Marco Salvucci: thanks to a narration that weaves together the painter's life and works and the "live" execution of some of the artist's drawings, the public will have the opportunity to learn more about the biography of one of the most eclectic and experimental artists of the 20th century. The last meeting, Art as Mystery, curated by Marco Salvucci and Valentina Zucchi, will instead take place on Wednesday 10 August, again at 6.30 p.m., and will focus on the figure and work of the master Giulio Paolini.

“Filippo de Pisis. L’illusione della superficialità” Museo Novecento Firenze

  • DARK PORTRAITS. FLORENCE/ROME 1982-1985 BY DINO IGNANI AT THE MUSEO MARINO MARINI

Roberto D'Agostino, a historical protagonist of the turmoil of the time, recounts the research that the famous Roman photographer conducted in the early 1980s on the young people who frequented the clubs of the dark universe. More than 400 photographs taken in video bars, discotheques and private parties documenting the creative web of new lifestyles will be exhibited at the Museo Marino Marini in Florence from 23 July to 19 September 2022 with the exhibition Dino Ignani. Dark Portraits - Florence/Rome 1982-1985, as part of the Anni Hottanta Remix exhibition and as part of the Estate Fiorentina programme.

  • PIZZA & ROSÈ AT VILLA LA MASSA

July becomes special in the magical setting of Villa La Massa. L'Oliveto, the space next to the new swimming pool, hosts every Wednesday the food pairing event, featuring Marco Manzi's gourmet pizza paired with wines, drinks and live music. Wednesday 20 July sees the return of the gourmet pizza and rosé combination with Dianella Conti Passerin d'Entrèves' Maria Vittoria & Ottavia Brut bubbles, to the notes of a guitar and voice duo.

  • YOUTH ORCHESTRA FESTIVAL: ROYAL WIND BAND SINT-CECILIA ROTSELAAR AT THE LOGGIA DEI LANZI

On Monday 18 July 2022, at 8.30 p.m., the 23rd International Festival of Youth Orchestras offers in Piazza della Signoria, under the Loggia dei Lanzi, the concert of the Royal Wind Band Sint-Cecilia Rotselaar from Belgium, conducted by Brecht Schepers. Until 12 August 2022, the International Youth Orchestra Festival promotes concerts by 18 orchestras from 11 countries around the world, renewing its mission and vocation. Admission is free.

  • JAZZ ON THE FARM: ANOMALOUS LIVE TRIO AT MARCHESI GONDI - TENUTA BOSSI

Marchesi Gondi await you at the concert of the Trio Funzionamento Anomalo, for the Jazz in Fattoria review. Music and Wine in Chianti Rufina, curated by Maestro Franco Baggiani, creator and artistic director of the project. Friday 22 July at 8 p.m., while from 6 p.m., by prior booking, it is possible to take part in a tour of the cellars with a tasting of the Chianti Rufina wines produced here, accompanied by small Tuscan samples, € 15.
