Apriti Cinema 2025 lights up Pitti Square
From June 16 to July 27, movies under the stars with free admission: the whole program
From June 16 to July 27, 2025, the highly anticipated event Apriti Cinema returns—Florence’s summer open-air film arena, part of the Estate Fiorentina festival—with free screenings every evening at 9:45 PM in the stunning setting of Piazza Pitti, the new location for this year’s edition.
Organized by the Quelli dell’Alfieri Association and curated by Cinema La Compagnia (Fondazione Sistema Toscana), Apriti Cinema remains a must-see event for film lovers and curious minds alike. The historic Florentine square will be transformed into a welcoming arena, blending the charm of the city center with the magic of the big screen under the stars.
The 2025 program offers a rich selection of titles from major international festivals featured in the 50 Days of Cinema in Florence project, including: Midsummer Nights curated by Lo Schermo dell’Arte; Stories Happening on Earth, a selection from the Festival dei Popoli; and Summer Edit from Middle East Now. Among the most anticipated moments of the edition is the special appearance by Leonardo Pieraccioni, who will be present in the arena on June 16 for the screening of I Laureati, marking thirty years since the film's release. Also not to be missed are the premieres of the documentaries: Mimo – Portrait of a Modern Mimo by Tara Vessali and Il magnifico. In ricordo di Massimo Sarchielli by Cecilia Muzzi.
Significant attention will also be given to the relationship between cinema and education: an event curated by Lanterne Magiche – FST, featuring the screening of the Carabba Prize winner and an evening dedicated to emotional education, celebrating the 80th anniversary of Scuola-Città Pestalozzi in Florence.

The Uffizi Galleries will take part with a mini-series of four films dedicated to the relationship between humanity and art—a fusion of contemporary perspectives and cultural heritage. Apriti Cinema will also host a special event dedicated to director Luca Guadagnino, in anticipation of the Fiesole Award to the Masters of Cinema, set to be presented in October 2025.
