Dosirak, Korean street food comes to Florence
A new restaurant dedicated to the flavors of South Korea, featuring fried chicken, noodles, corn dogs, and the traditional lunch box
Florence has gained a new spot dedicated to Korean cuisine. It’s called Dosirak and has opened on Via San Zanobi, in the San Lorenzo neighborhood, with the goal of bringing one of the most casual and popular aspects of South Korean cuisine to the city: street food.
The restaurant’s name is no coincidence. In Korea, in fact, the dosirak is the traditional packed lunch—a sort of lunch box that combines various ingredients in a single container. It’s a concept that many have come to recognize thanks to Squid Game, the Netflix series that brought elements of Korean food culture to international audiences.
Dosirak, Pollo CroccanteThe menu focuses primarily on Seoul’s classic street food, with dishes prepared fresh and designed to be enjoyed quickly and casually. Among the specialties is gimbap, a rice roll wrapped in seaweed and filled with various ingredients—one of the most iconic foods of everyday Korean cuisine. Then there’s tteokbokki—soft, chewy rice cakes seasoned with a spicy sauce—and Korean-style fried chicken, known for its particularly crispy coating.
The menu also includes dumplings and corn dogs, another great classic of Korean street food, as well as an entire wall dedicated to noodles, with numerous varieties available to buy and take home.
Dosirak, GimbapThe idea is to offer cuisine that is immediately accessible even to those who are not yet familiar with Korean flavors, without sacrificing the dishes most loved by those who are already familiar with Seoul’s gastronomy.
The opening of Dosirak comes at a time when South Korean culture is increasingly present in Italy as well: from music to cinema, from fashion to cuisine. This popularity has helped raise awareness of ingredients, recipes, and culinary traditions that were once considered niche.
DosirakWith Dosirak, therefore, Korean cuisine once again enters the Florentine culinary scene with an informal concept, designed for a lunch break, a quick dinner, or a snack between strolls through the city center.
