Florence, the Capital of Art: On September 24, the BIAF’s spectacular fireworks will light up the Arno

Soprano Carolina López Moreno will open the gala evening at Palazzo Corsini, a prelude to the spectacular fireworks display that will light up the city’s sky

On the evening of September 24, Florence once again becomes the capital of art, with an evening that brings together the city’s great artistic tradition, opera, and one of the events most eagerly awaited by Florentines: the fireworks over the Arno.

The BIAF – Florence International Antiques Biennial celebrates its Gala Evening, scheduled at Palazzo Corsini, with a special event that will culminate in a performance open to the public. At 10:30 p.m., in fact, on the Lungarno Corsini, international soprano Carolina López-Moreno will take center stage, performing an open-air concert and treating the city to a moment of great music.

Carolina López-Moreno is an internationally acclaimed young lyric soprano whose repertoire centers on the heroines of the great Italian tradition, particularly those of Puccini and Verdi. She has made a name for herself through the emotional truth of her interpretations, her magnetic stage presence, and her beauty. Her voice is rich in nuance and expressive depth, supple and ever-changing. She has performed leading roles at some of the world’s most prestigious opera houses, including the Royal Opera House in London, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Rome Opera, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, collaborating with renowned conductors such as Anthony Pappano, Daniele Gatti, and Zubin Mehta.

As she herself explains: “Tuscany holds a very special place in my artistic life. My first professional engagement in Italy was at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa, in Giuseppe Verdi’s Il Trovatore. That’s when my relationship with Italy began”Her career is now expanding worldwide. Carolina López-Moreno is set to make her debut at La Scala in Milan as Mimì in Giacomo Puccini’s La Bohème, a role she also performs at the Liceu in Barcelona. She will soon take on the role of Nedda in Leoncavallo’s I Pagliacci at the Regio in Turin and the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples.

The soprano returns to Florence, to the Maggio Fiorentino, this coming fall as Amelia Grimaldi in Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra, conducted by James Conlon and directed by Àlex Ollè of La Fura dels Baus.
