Florentine Summer 2021, four months of events for the cultural rebirth of Florence

From the new literary salon to the festivals scattered around the city: all the news of the kermesse

The appointment with the Florentine Summer is renewed! A reduced edition, which passes from the usual 6 months to four, but in which there will be events, festivals and exhibitions throughout the city to give an important signal of rebirth and restart after long months in which even the cultural events have been put on hold.
Among the novelties of this Florentine Summer 2021, whose organization has been entrusted to the M.U.S.E., a literary salon in Piazza del Carmine and 15 festivals that have 'resisted' every adversity.  
"It will be a kermesse certainly different, but no less ambitious: there are 15 confirmed festivals and over 140 projects that won the call, with an extremely varied program, mostly free admission, able to involve the most diverse audiences," said the Councillor for Culture Tommaso Sacchi during the press conference at the Teatro la Pergola in the presence of the mayor Dario Nardella and the main institutions.

The book salon

One of the 'new' places of the Summer is piazza del Carmine: pedestrianized and revalorized, for the first time it will host 'Oltrarno libro aperto' (Oltrarno open book district) from June 22 to August 8, a literary salon in a new place where Fabio Genovesi, Ernesto Ferrero, Walter Veltroni, Marco Vichi, Gennaro Della Volpe, among others, will speak. 
The call for bids for the other summer spaces, on the other hand, is closed but still in the process of being assigned: the Anconella Park, the Horticultural Garden, the Rose Garden, the Argingrosso Park and the Cascine/Prato delle Cornacchie Amphitheater were also 'in the running', while the extensions of some spaces that were closed last year due to Covid have been confirmed, such as the Parterre, Piazza Tasso, the beach on the Arno, and Piazzetta Tre Re where Serre Torrigiani in Piazzetta will return.

The 15 festivals already selected last year are also confirmed and funded:
The literary festival La città dei lettori (from August 26 to 29 at Villa Bardini)
The festival of Sagrati in musica sotto le stelle (various locations, from June to September)
The festival Musart in Piazza Santissima Annunziata (17-27 July)
The review of dance Future Perfect (26 June-29 July in Santa Maria Novella)
Apriti cinema at the Uffizi square (28 June-8 August)
The juggling of Cirk Fantastik alle Cascine (6-21 September)
Genius Loci in Santa Croce (September 21-25)
The festival of electronic music Lattexplus (1-20 September)
The brass festival Italian Brass Week (August, various locations)
Secret Florence to the discovery of unusual places (June 10-23)
The urban folk music of the Florence Folks Festival (July at Varlungo)
The events on the terraces of Florence from above (various dates in places like Forte di Belvedere, Giardino delle rose, Arcetri and others)
The international atmospheres of the Festival au desert (June 30-July 2 at the Cascine and cloister of Santa Maria Novella)
The multidisciplinary review Copula mundi (September 2-5 at Parco del Mensola)
The Florence Jazz Festival (September 9-12, various locations).

Very rich also the calendar dedicated to music, cinema and theater. From the Viper teather, which in collaboration with Le Nozze di Figaro aims at rap and trap, to the Rifredi Theatre, which proposes again the walking therapies, that is 27 walks to discover Florence, up to the open-air cinema inside the Cloister of the Novecento Museum (on www.estatefiorentina.it you can find the continuously updated program).
In short, a big investment that, thanks to the support of Toscana Energia and Gucci, will bring back to the city one of the most loved events by Florentines and not.
