Art, concerts, shows and good food. Here are the events not to be missed this week in and around Florence.

  • ATTRAVERSO SIGNORINI IN THE SQUARES OF THE CENTRE

Antonio Signorini's exhibition takes place from 8 October 2022 to 31 January 2023 in three of the most suggestive squares in the historic centre of Florence. Piazza del Carmine, where Arcturus and Sun the two monumental bronze flying horses, each reaching 10 metres in length, are installed, Piazza San Firenze, which sees the installation of the monumental bronze dancers and warriors, and Piazza del Grano, which hosts Luce, an ancestral mask in gilded bronze, are the squares that make up the exhibition itinerary of Antonio Signorini's ATTRAVERSO exhibition. Back in Florence from 4 to 9 October 2022, at Cinema La Compagnia, Cinema Stensen and other city venues, with a multifaceted programme of events, including cinema, documentaries, art, exhibitions, music, food, meetings and cultural projects in the broadest sense.   • SUNDAY AT THE SYNAGOGUE, MUSEUM AND MONUMENTAL JEWISH CEMETERY

Three months of guided tours to discover the Synagogue, the Jewish Museum and the Monumental Cemetery in Florence. Until 8 January with several rounds of visits to get closer to Jewish culture and discover usually inaccessible places such as the Monumental Cemetery in Viale Ariosto. Appointments in October: The Synagogue of Florence in its history and rituals, Sunday 23 October (at 11 am and 3.30 pm), Sunday 30 October (at 11 am, 12.30 pm and 3.30 pm). Visit to the Jewish Monumental Cemetery, Sunday 9 October (at 11 a.m. and 12.30 p.m.); The figure and role of women in Judaism, Sunday 23 October (at 12.30 p.m.). The cost of the guided tours will be €10 per person; to take part, booking is required on 055290383.

  • NO SLEEP TILL SHENGAL, MEETING AND SIGNACOPIE WITH ZEROCALCARE AT FELTRINELLI RED

On Friday 7 October, at 3 p.m., at la Feltrinelli RED bookshop in Florence, piazza Repubblica 26, Zerocalcare meets readers, presents his new book No sleep till Shengal (BAO editore) and signs copies. Drawings scheduled from 3.00 p.m. and meeting at 9.00 p.m.

  • FLORENCE BOOKS 2022, THE FESTIVAL OF INDEPENDENT BOOKSHOPS AT THE VISARNO RACECOURSE

Firenze Books is back. After the success of last year's edition, this year the festival dedicated to books, the spread of reading and the promotion of independent bookshops will be held at the Ippodromo del Visarno on 7, 8 and 9 October. The great protagonists are the Florentine independent bookshops, namely Libreria Florida, Libreria Alfani, Leggermente and Farollo and Falpalà, which have collaborated with Confartigianato Imprese Firenze on the festival programme. Firenze Books will feature a rich programme with 50 presentations, including the comic-strip artist Pera Toons, Massimo Cotto with the Florentine artist Piero Pelù, Strega and Campiello Prize winner Helena Janeczek, Saverio Tommasi, Marino Bartoletti, Lorenzo Baglioni, Beatrice Venezi, Ultimo Uomo and many others, as well as workshops and readings for children.

  • SUONI RIFLESSI

Until 26 November the first edition of Suoni Riflessi in the Sala Vanni in Piazza del Carmine. Music, different arts and expressions, international soloists, young promises, contemporary creativity, consecrated authors, entertainment, musicological investigation, generations compared and more, all united in a cultural and emotional space of the highest quality and educational level. HERE the complete programme.

Verdi's Il trovatore will be on stage again at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino on 5 and 7 October in the Sala Mehta with the new staging. HERE the complete programme of the theatre.

  • SHAKESPEARE'S TWELFTH NIGHT AT THE PERGOLA THEATRE

The playbill of the Teatro della Pergola opens with the Saloncino 'Paolo Poli' programme. The first show, from 11 to 20 October in national premiere, is Shakespeare's Twelfth Night directed by Pier Paolo Pacini, in the translation by Orazio Costa, with the reduction by Filippo Gentili, the costumes by Elena Bianchini, the scene by Fran Bobadilla.

Every Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 9.30 p.m., the Uffizi opens its doors in the evening to see Botticelli, Michelangelo, Caravaggio and all the great masterpieces of art history in a different light (the ticket price is the ordinary one, last admission one hour before closing).

  • CREATIVE FACTORY IN PIAZZA CIOMPI

On 8 and 9 October, the Creative Factory returns to Piazza Ciompi as a fixed appointment for the autumn. From 9.30 a.m. to 8 p.m. artisans, makers and designers colour the historic centre with creativity and passion for the handmade.

On 6 October Zubin Mehta returns to the podium of the Sala Grande for a concert in which he performs the overture from La Griselda by Pietro Alessandro Guglielmi. On 11 October, Mehta performs Anton Bruckner's grand Symphony No. 8 in C minor, the Austrian musician's largest and most ambitious composition. The concert is held in the Great Hall.

  • NOW - NO WASTE ART, THE EXHIBITION BY CUGNETTO AND VENTURINI AT LA FONDERIA ART GALLERY

On Saturday, 8 October 2022, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 7.30 p.m., the La Fonderia Art Gallery in Florence, in via della Fonderia 42R, will host the contemporary art exhibition Now - No Waste Art. An exhibition event designed to inspire and educate on sustainability and circularity thanks to the works of two emerging artists, Antonio Cugnetto and Liber Vittorio Venturini, who, thanks to the creative reuse of waste materials, give life to innovative works, tangible examples of sustainability capable of conveying a profound and meaningful message.

  • SICCITÀ, THE NEW FILM BY PAOLO VIRZÌ AT CINEMA ADRIANO

Until Wednesday 5 October 2022 (closed on Mondays), at 4.40 p.m., 7.05 p.m. and 9.30 p.m., the film Siccità" by Paolo Virzì, starring Silvio Orlando, Valerio Mastandrea, Elena Lietti, Tommaso Ragno, Claudia Pandolfi, Vinicio Marchioni, Monica Bellucci, Diego Ribon, Max Tortora, Emanuela Fanelli, Gabriel Montesi and Sara Serraiocco, arrives at Cinema Adriano, directly from the Venice Film Festival.

  • STEAK AND PORCINI MUSHROOM FESTIVAL IN CERTALDO

Opening on Thursday 6 October, the festival continues every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 7 to 23 October. Porcini mushrooms will be offered grilled, fried and fried.   • CHESTNUT FESTIVAL IN MARRADI

Now in its 58th edition, every 4th Sunday in October: 9, 16, 23 and 30 October 2022, it is possible to taste many dishes based on chestnuts, from tortelli con i marroni to marrons glacés, from jams to the typical roasted chestnuts in the municipality of Marradi. On the occasion of the Chestnut and Marron Sagra Buono, it is also possible to reach Marradi by steam train and enjoy the beautiful autumn colours of the leaves.
