"Salvatore - Il Calzolaio dei Sogni" the exciting human, artistic and entrepreneurial story of Salvatore Ferragamo, a symbolic name in Italian and world fashion.

"This is my life's work: learning to make perfect shoes, refusing to put my name on the ones that are not. So, please, beyond the story of the barefoot, ignorant boy who became a famous shoemaker, focus your attention on the pleasure that comes from walking well".
Thus ends the preface to Salvatore Ferragamo's autobiography, which prompted Luca Guadagnino to make the docufilm Salvatore - Il Calzolaio dei Sogni.
The film, distributed by Luky Red in cinemas on 11, 12 and 13 October, is the exciting human, artistic and entrepreneurial story of Salvatore Ferragamo, enriched by the narration of actor Michael Stuhlbarg and by unpublished images and unique testimonies that include, alongside members of the Ferragamo family, director Martin Scorsese, costume designer Deborah Nadoolman Landis, and numerous scholars, teachers, stylists, journalists, fashion and film critics.
The film also features the voice of Salvatore Ferragamo: restored vintage recordings of radio interviews he gave in Australia and chapters of his autobiography narrated by Ferragamo himself.
From his extraordinary passion for footwear in Naples to his journey to America driven by a desire to explore new challenges, from his life stories in Hollywood to his return to Italy, the result of an exceptional intuition to establish production in Florence, from the risk of bankruptcy to his rebirth in his Florence workshop and his definitive consecration and entrepreneurial success: Salvatore - Il Calzolaio dei Sogni shows the mystery and fascination of a complex figure, an icon of Italian and world fashion who never lost sight of the importance of family ties.

Written by fashion journalist and author Dana Thomas and presented out of competition at the 77th Venice Film Festival, Salvatore - Il Calzolaio dei Sogni is directed by Luca Guadagnino after the success of Call Me by Your Name and Suspiria.
The project came to life in 2017 when, inspired by reading the autobiography of the Italian shoemaker and entrepreneur, director Luca Guadagnino contacted the Ferragamo family. A three-year-long process in which the Salvatore Ferragamo Foundation and Museum worked alongside the director and screenwriter Dana Thomas, providing expertise and historical knowledge. Of central importance was the Ferragamo family, who gave director Luca Guadagnino access to the brand's archives, which contained interviews, anecdotes and unpublished information, as well as the latest and most precious testimonies of Wanda Miletti, Salvatore's wife.
